Comics and Cartoons as a Writing Strategy

I had an idea 5 years ago to create a safe and creative space for kids to create comics and stories. It’s been a wonderful journey and I am excited to see what develops as we continue to grow and develop our programming!

Two-hour classes with loads of drawing, writing and cartooning applications that help students create unique characters and storylines.

A fast-paced and fun comic-creating session that will crush writer’s block, through collaboration, humour and tackling deadlines. Enhanced with a few creative drawing games with a focus on the silly, the ridiculous and the profound! I keep the class sizes small (8 students maximum) to ensure individual attention.

New Studio on the way

After an amazing run at Rolling Tales Pop Culture, we have to find a new space. Jay and everyone else connected to RT have been nothing short of amazing. A workshop, complete with an art gallery, surrounded by the best selection of books and comics! Incredible. It was more than we could have ever imagined. Retail businesses, especially for local owners, have had an incredibly difficult time. This is especially evident as you take a wander around downtown Edmonton. High rents lead to boarded-up spaces everywhere. That said, The Draw Funny workshops grew to levels that we hadn’t seen before. We have a few options for a new home and I don’t want to rush into anything until all the boxes are checked. We’ve had to change locations now for the fourth time, so this next move needs to be a more permanent and consistent home.

All that being said…. We are super close to finding that new home. Keep an eye on this space for an announcement soon.
